Purolator International President John Costanzo to Speak at this week’s 3PL Summit

Purolator International President, John Costanzo, will present a session at the 2015 3PL Summit & Chief Supply Chain Officer Forum, offering his expertise and views on the future of parcel and small package delivery.  He will discuss where this marketplace is headed, and how logistics service providers can partner with retailers to maximize the current ecommerce and omnichannel opportunities.

Worldwide ecommerce sales were $1.5 trillion during 2014, and are expected to top $2.5 trillion by 2018.  The growth of smartphone and tablet usage has greatly contributed to this, and has created today’s customer-centric omnichannel world, where retailers are expected to offer a full array of purchasing, delivery and return options to fit each shopper’s needs.  Costanzo will discuss avenues service providers can pursue to help retailers deliver low-cost, highly flexible, guaranteed deliveries to meet customer demands.

“In today’s world, retailers, ecommerce companies, and manufacturers who can offer multiple shipping options, ease of returns processing, and an exceptional customer experience – whether their customers are buying in-store, online, by phone or catalogue – will win,” said Costanzo.  “Leading retailers are now fulfilling their orders from multiple channels, including their traditional central DCs, in-store pickup, store to consumer, and direct from the manufacturer.  If companies cannot adapt their supply chain operations and technology to meet this challenge, their customers will bring their business elsewhere.”

Costanzo also will explore the global opportunities that exist due to ecommerce. Purolator International recently released survey data, conducted independently with Stony Brook University, on online shopping habits of U.S. and Canadian consumers.  The results demonstrated that Canadians shop online because: the retailer was not located nearby (21 percent) or they were able to find a better selection online (23 percent).  Seventy-six percent of Canadian shoppers also said shipping costs were “very important” in their decision making.

“Ecommerce gives customers new options, but also presents an opportunity for U.S. based companies to expand,” Costanzo added.  “International shipping can seem daunting, but there are solutions available to make cross border shipments simple and help ensure that end consumers are satisfied with their online shopping experience.”

“Purolator offers technology to help customers adapt their global supply chain strategies to offer multiple fulfillment options and an exceptional customer experience, to ultimately make omnichannel not just a reality, but cost-effective,” concluded Costanzo.

The 3PL Summit is North America’s largest and most high-level gathering of logistics executives and their manufacturer and retailer supply chain counterparts. With over 600 attendees, it brings together the leading thinkers and practitioners in logistics and supply chain to network, learn, debate challenges, discuss trends and share ideas. The conference takes place June 16-18, 2015 at the Raddison Blu Aqua in Chicago.
