Purolator International Honored as a Corporate Citizen of the Year by Long Island Business News

JERICHO, NY – June 14, 2016 – Purolator International, the leading provider of cross-border logistics, has been named a Corporate Citizen of the Year by Long Island Business Newsmagazine.  The award recognizes the significant contributions companies make to better the economic and social well-being of the Long Island community. Purolator International accepted its award as Mid-Size Corporate Citizen of the Year this morning at an awards breakfast at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

Purolator International has a robust community outreach program called Purolator Gives Back.  Over the past year, the program partnered with three organizations – Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, AHRC Long Island, and United Way of Long Island – to donate goods and volunteer time.

“We’re proud to be recognized by Long Island Business News for community outreach efforts,” said John Costanzo, President, Purolator International.  “Our Purolator Gives Back team, led by Elodie Cohen, has done an amazing job at organizing events for the entire company to give back to Long Island. We’re committed to helping our friends and neighbors, and look forward to many more volunteer opportunities in the future.”

In May 2015, Purolator donated two trucks to Long Island Cares. The trucks are both 14-feet and can each accommodate approximately 2,500 meals. One van is being used as part of Long Island Cares Store Donation Program which is supported by more than 50 Long Island retailers.  The second truck was converted into a “food truck” with a workable kitchen.  This is the first of its kind food truck used to deliver free meals to feed insecure children in their communities throughout Long Island year round.  Purolator employees also volunteered their time this spring on the truck, cooking and serving meals.

In addition to the physical trucks, Purolator International also hosted a two-week food drive at its corporate headquarters, inviting 30 Long Island businesses, comprised of approximately 1,200 employees, to fill the trucks with non-perishable food before they were delivered to Long Island Cares.  The food drive donated 1,968 pounds of food, the equivalent of 1,640 meals. This milestone donation was on top of regular food drives and employees’ volunteer hours at the warehouse.  Long Island Cares also hosted Purolator for a family day, when employees’ children learned about food insecurity on Long Island and volunteered their time in the warehouse.

In working with the AHRC, Purolator employees have volunteered many hours to various programs including: AHRC Day of Action to help clean and refurbish parks and nurseries for the non-for-profit’s use; Adopt a Family to purchase holiday gifts and host a holiday party for AHRC families; and Dress for Success to donate business attire for AHRC members to help prepare them for employment.  The team is also working to set up a day where AHRC members can visit Purolator’s headquarters for mock interviewing.

In additional support, Purolator International donated recycled electronics from 30 U.S. branches as part of AHRC Nassau eWorks Program that provides green-tech jobs for people with developmental disabilities.  Purolator also collaborated with a manufacturing customer to donate its old and/or overstock light fixtures to be used in AHRC residences.

For the United Way, Purolator has participated in their Live United T-shirt program benefiting veterans, and took part in sponsoring and hosting the annual United Way Day Luncheon. Employees may also donate a portion of their salaries to United Way each year.

Purolator Gives Back also has a strong employee wellness program, with employees participating in fundraising walks throughout the year such as the 9/11 Memorial 5k and Relay for Life.
