Purolator International Supports Long Island Cares with Food Deliveries

Long Island Cares, Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank, Long Island’s first food bank and one of the region’s most comprehensive hunger assistance  organizations,  and  Purolator International, the leading provider of U.S. – Canada logistics services teamed up to help feed more hungry children this summer.

For a nine-week period over the summer months, Operations Support Specialist Darren Leacock and Manager of Security Safety and Regulatory Affairs George Trapp from Purolator’s Farmingdale branch  made  weekly deliveries to Long Island Cares’ Summer Feeding Program locations in Patchogue and Riverhead where fresh  fruit, salads and sandwiches were distributed  to almost 300 children.

In addition, Purolator is providing bi-weekly deliveries of fresh bread from a Port Washington bakery to Long Island Cares’ headquarters in Hauppauge for distribution to Long Island Cares’ member agency network.

“Purolator International is passionate about ending hunger on Long Island.   Sharing this goal with Long Island Cares drives us to give as much support as we can to this great organization,” said John T. Costanzo, President, Purolator International.  “Because they are located on Long Island where our headquarters are located in Jericho and an East District branch resides in Farmingdale, we are able to work closely with them.  Eliminating hunger is also a key initiative of our parent company, Purolator, Inc. in Canada. Their Purolator Tackles Hunger program has helped deliver the equivalent of over 6 million pounds of food in Canada since 2003.”

Purolator’s East District Manager Tony Catapano said helping Long Island Cares is one of his priorities.  “We’ve seen the problem of hunger grow on Long Island, and we want to help,” said Mr. Catapano.   “Stamping out hunger is at the top of our list of charitable goals.”

Kristine Kossegi Lehn, Director of Agency Relations at Long Island Cares, said, “We are here to serve individuals and families in need.  We could not do what we do so well without the help and support of Corporate Long Island.  Purolator International is a shining example of corporate generosity at its finest and we could not be more grateful for their involvement and support.”
