NEWBURGH, N.Y., January 17, 2005 – Purolator U.S.A.'s northbound distribution business from the U.S. is taking flight with a new gateway terminal located at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, New York.
As Purolator U.S.A.'s first major induction center in the northeast, the Newburgh terminal (located approximately 75 miles north of New York City) began operations in the fall of 2004, and acts as the main gateway into Canada from northeastern, mid-Atlantic and parts of southeastern U.S.
"With Purolator U.S.A.'s current initiative to expand our east coast coverage, Newburgh is a great facility situated in a prime location," says John Sweeney, Vice President, Service Quality for Purolator U.S.A.
As with all Purolator U.S.A. operations, the Newburgh team focuses on the distribution of expedited small packages, less than truckload and full truckload services, alliances with other distribution and logistics companies, transportation management services, and mail and parcel services. Newburgh also provides expert Canadian customs service.
During the terminal's initial operation, one linehaul trailer was all that was needed to transport shipments to Purolator's Martin Grove terminal (located in Toronto, ON) for distribution. Today, it's not uncommon for two linehaul trailers to make the journey. Newburgh's significant growth is expected to increase substantially over the coming year.
In addition to the daily linehaul connections, Newburgh also sends an air charter into Purolator's Hamilton Airport consisting of shipments from two major clients.
