Non-Resident Importer

Canada’s Non-Resident Importer (NRI) program offers U.S. businesses unique access to the Canadian market. As a NRI, a U.S. business acts as an “importer of record,” and is able to have direct control over its shipments to Canada. Among other things, a U.S. business is able to collect Canadian taxes and fees at the time of purchase. This eliminates the risk of unexpected invoiced at the time of delivery. NRI status also allows a U.S. business to complete on a level playing field with Canadian businesses, so that sales to Canadian customers mirror domestic transactions, This white paper provides and in-depth review of the program.
